Martin's Klooster Hotel

Leuven

Central but peaceful, the Klooster is partly comprises a 16th-century building that was once home to Emperor Charles Quint’s secretary and much later became an Augustinian convent. Some 39 of the rooms are in the historic building, typically with antique beams and simulated fires, while 103 more corporate versions are in the comfortable modern annexe linked by a glass-walled corridor.

All but the cheapest 'cosy' rooms have kettles. Room prices oscillate wildly but for the full-on Klooster experience you can choose one of the three 'Exceptional' options (notably Mother Superior's Room no 7), which include parking, breakfast, minibar and a half-bottle of champagne for a flat rate of €299.

Remarkably obliging reception staff work 24 hours.
