A fabulously old-fashioned hotel, with swaggy curtains, parquet floors and loyal repeat visitors. Weekend deals and lower-demand periods are especially good value.
The hotel has a handful of curious theme rooms. These include the Wanda-Sacher-Masoch-Suite – named for the wife of writer Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, from whom we get the term masochism – a quaintly traditional room with no furs or whips in sight, or the Kaiser Maximilian Room where you can sleep in the ill-fated Habsburg's own made-in-Mexico bed.
